California Indian lands as secured in 18 treaties

(multicolored areas) negotiated with the United States, endorsed by California Indian tribes, and then reneged upon by the United States. Maroon areas represent reservation lands provided for in treaty contracts with America. Note: The colored areas DO NOT represent tribal areas. There were about 500 tribes originally in California and about 400 chiefs and leaders signed the 18 treaties seen on this map.
